Scarborough Beaches Bathing Water Rated as Excellent by DEFRA

19th Nov 2008

Guests staying at one of our Scarborough Hotels can enjoy a paddle this month, safe in the knowledge that the bathing water quality at both North & South Bay beach have been rated “excellent” by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

The news from DEFRA comes this month following the release of their 2008 mandatory compliance results for bathing waters in the UK, in accordance with the EC Bathing Water Directive.

Both of Scarborough’s beaches have achieved DEFRA’s highest rating of ‘excellent’ this year, passing the tests most stringent guidelines.

The results mean that North Bay has now been rated “excellent” for eight consecutive years, and follow on from on from the prestigious Blue Flag Beach Award presented to North Bay earlier in the year.

The awards are sure to be great news for anyone planning a short break to Scarborough in the coming months, after all there’s no better way to enjoy a trip to the seaside than with a paddle in the sea!
