Scarborough Eating Venue to Be Reborn as Stylish Restaurant and Cafe

05th Jan 2009

One of Scarborough’s best known eating places is set to be reborn as a stylish restaurant and cafe.

The popular Oasis cafe, on Royal Albert Drive and just minutes from The Clifton Hotel Scarborough, will become a seafood restaurant offering fresh local fish caught, cooked and served by the same family business.

He told the Scarborough Evening News “It is designed in a similar way to the Oasis, with an outside seating area and patio. The new building will be on two levels and upstairs we hope to make it a two-tier business.

“In the winter, when it is cold, we want to do workmen’s breakfasts – especially now we have won the free parking along Marine Drive. Then at 3pm the chefs come in, and they will start prepping for the restaurant on the evening.”

He said: “My wife is from Thailand and she makes some fantastic seafood dishes. We hope to serve some of these great dishes at the restaurant.

“And of course because we are local fishermen, we will catch our own fish and shellfish, and the prices will be very competitive.

“I’m really looking forward to this. With the new Sands apartments and the Open Air Theatre revamp I think it is a real up-and-coming area.”

Once the new Oasis cafe is built, the old building will be demolished and replaced by a picnic area.

Mr Ford has used local contractors in the development of the new cafe restaurant situated just below our Scarborough Hotel.
