The seaside town on Scarborough has a population of over 50,000 and is commonly regarded as the UK’s first resort. Still the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast, Scarborough and the surrounding area combines stunning coastlines with beautiful countryside as well as many great tourist attractions and places of interest.
If you’d like to explore a little further afield Scarborough is surrounded by a host of quaint country villages and market towns, perfect for a spot of shopping. The historic city of York is just 40 minutes away by car, with Leeds and Hull also only and hour and a half away.
There’s no need to venture far however as there’s plenty of things to do in Scarborough and the surrounding area for everyone to enjoy. If you enjoy walking why not explore the cliff tops of the Yorkshire coast or take the short drive to nearby Dalby Forest. For those seeking a little culture there’s also castles, country houses, Museums and galleries to explore. Families can enjoy 2 beautiful beaches, not to mention a host of family attractions. And for those looking for entertainment there’s plenty of events, shows, restaurants and nightlife to enjoy.
Don’t forget the Yorkshire coast is also home to several of seaside resorts too, all a short drive from Scarborough. Visit Bridlington with its lively seafront; Filey, with its Edwardian buildings, beautiful promenade and sweeping beaches and of course Whitby with the stunning Whitby Abbey overlooking the busy harbour and jumble of alleyways and narrow streets of the old town.
